N-ai cum să nu preţuieşti atitudinea Third Man Records, casa de discuri creată de Jack White (The White Stripes, The Dead Weather). Plasată la jumătatea drumului dintre cele două extreme ale distribuţiei muzicale – downloadul gratuit adoptat de unele trupe pornite pe cont propriu (Radiohead, “In Rainbows”) şi maniera tiranică de a oferi acces la proprietatea artistului doar pe cale financiară – Third Man Records expune albume întregi cântate live, cale prin care reuşeşte să te persuadeze magistral în a le cumpăra.

După “Sea of Cowards” al The Dead Weather (despre care am citit mai multe aici), Karen Elson îşi scoate şi ea în mod public manşonul de discreţie de pe foarte proaspătul său album, The Ghost Who Walks.

The early songs I wrote were very self-indulgent. Real woe-is-me. But living in Nashville, the songwriters I like here, they all manage to find a narrative; they use metaphors and stories to explain what they’re feeling. I don’t need to show everybody my diary. Karen Elson

Ca o potrivire cu lansarea The Ghost Who Walks, numărul din iunie al revistei Vogue cuprinde un material despre cântăreaţă şi devenirea ei din model în muzician, dar şi aşchii din relaţia artistică cu Jack White. Pentru întâia oară, White a acceptat să fie parte dintr-o poveste în imagini a celor doi, fotografiată de Annie Leibovitz. “You know, this is going to be the only time we are ever, ever, ever going to do this, so it might as well be with the best people on the planet, it might as well be with Annie and Grace, to get that one great image of the pair of us.” Jack White
